A Little Compromise

Sometimes we are tempted to compromise and do things that we really know are wrong. But how does this affect the good in us? In this series, we look at four effects of the little compromises in the life of an individual and those around them.

A Little Compromise: Corrupts Character

1 Corinthians 5:6-7 6 Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? 7 Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

One bad fruit in a basket of good fruit will eventually spoil the whole basket if no one gets rid of it. This is how corruption works, it spoils all the good that is around it and the ripple effect goes into the rest of the good and eventually, a basket that had only one bad fruit will have nothing good. Paul is warning us that when we tolerate bad habits or bad character traits, they eventually spoil every good we have. It should be our responsibility to consistently do a personal stock rake so that we get rid of any bad character traits, behaviors, attitudes, thoughts, and desires before they spoil the good character we have.

Prayer
Give us grace to diligently guard our characters.
