God is in our midst.

God’s presence in our lives calls us to walk in a manner that is pleasing to him. In this series, we look at what we must do as we walk with the Lord.

Day

1

Remove idolatry from you

1 Corinthians 10:6-10 6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.” 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. 9 We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did —and were killed by the destroying angel.

One of the things that God hates is idolatry. The first two commandments focus on this issue, which emphasizes how serious God is about it. God wants us to have him and him alone as our God and Lord. That means there is nothing and no one before him; neither will we have any equals to him. The idols we can see physically can be easy to deal with, but the ones we have in our hearts can be very tricky. The idols in our hearts are complicated because no one else can see them except us and God. As we reflect on today's scripture, we must examine our hearts to see if anything is competing or sharing our love and commitment to God, whose desire is that we love him with all our heart, strength, mind, and soul.

Prayer
Search us, Lord, and know our hearts; if there is anything that is not of you, remove it from us.
