The call to be faithful

When God entrusts us with responsibility, he expects us not only to have faith in him but to be faithful in carrying out our work. In this series, we look at what God has equipped us so that we are faithful. Using the life of Saul who was the first King of Israel we will learn the ways of God in making us ready to serve him.

God gives a new heart

9 When he turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all these signs came to pass that day. 1 Samuel 10:9

As Saul was beginning his journey as the king of Israel, God gave him a new heart. This was a heart of flesh that was not hardened by the corruption of this world or by the issues of this life. Since the heart is where all issues of life are contained, God needed a heart that was pure which is why he had to change the one that already existed within his servant. This was the first thing that Saul was called to steward by God before he became king of Israel. We too, as we come to Christ, God gives us a new heart of flesh and He calls us to be stewards of this heart. We have the responsibility to ensure that we guard jealously this precious gift we received from God lest we end up returning again to the same state where we were before; the state of hardened hearts that are not obedient to Him and cannot yield to the Spirit of God that He sends to us. Let us ensure that we do not spoil this heart that God has entrusted us with.

Thank you, Lord, for the new heart that you have given me. I pray that you may help me to faithfully keep it in accordance with your word.
