The expression of love

"Greater love has no man than this that a man lays his life down for his friends." What then is love? How do we express it? What are it's boundaries? In this series, we look at these questions to know how to express our love.

Complete love

1 Corinthians 13:1-8 1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.8 Love never fails.

"Greater love has no man than this that a man lays his life down for his friends." These were the words of Jesus to his disciples, and he lived up to his word. The literal moment for him to lay down his life came in the most brutal, humiliating, and shameful way of being hung on the cross. Because He loved his friends to the end, he laid his life for us. We will focus on two things in this reflection.

o Firstly, we must communicate our love clearly and consistently to those receiving it. Jesus didn't leave friends to figure that out for themselves; he made it plain and ensured he echoed it repeatedly.

o Secondly, when we claim to love others, our actions must prove it.

The two of them should be inseparable for love to be complete.

Prayer
Lord, teach us to love as you do.
